The idea for this blog (and eventually the podcast that will accompany it, one day, if I ever get a portable recorder and can get my podcasting life sorted out) came out of a conversation I had at Podcasters Across Borders 2007 with Zedcaster Bruce Murray. We were talking about making life lists, and what we wanted to accomplish, and I let it spill that I wanted to run the Paris Marathon.
Originally, I was just going to blog/podcast about doing that, preparing for, training for, and eventually running the Marathon (which is why it was called 42.1 -- the marathon distance in kilometres). But life, as it sometimes does, pushed me in a different direction -- some minor health issues meant that I couldn't start training, and left me feeling frustrated at life, the universe, and, well -- everything.
After many months of mulling over it all, I decided that even if I couldn't run the marathon in 2008, it would still be a year of making changes in my life, of looking over my life list and seeing what I could accomplish, making some additions to the list, and just generally moving in a new direction. I came to the realization last year that I really don't know who I am anymore, I don't really know where I want to go in life, or what I want to do with the rest of my life.
So what will you find here at 42.1? Well, probably not the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, not a guide to life, the universe and everything.
Maybe, instead, just a guide to my galaxy -- and just a look at my life, my universe, and, perhaps, just a little bit more from time to time.
And the Paris Marathon? Well, you'll have to stay tuned to find out...
